Nesquehoning park bids come in at $495K

Nesquehoning borough officials are taking a pause to see what their next step will be after bids for a major park renovation came in hundreds of thousands of dollars more than the grant the borough received.

On Wednesday, council announced the lowest bid for the Johnson and Jacobs Memorial Park on West Railroad Street came in at $495,428. The borough has $243,000 in grants to use for the park upgrade.

Councilman Bruce Nalesnik asked if the board could ask about reconfiguring the project to fit within the grant amount, but council said that they already adjusted the scope of work before this bid so that may not be an option now.

Following a brief discussion, council voted to table the bids until the April workshop meeting, to allow time to further review the borough’s options moving forward.

Renovations to the park have been in the works for years and modifications to the plans have taken place to decrease the cost.
