Monroe Co. woman loses $1,900 in theft

A 50-year-old woman from Jackson Township is the victim of a theft by deception incident whereby she lost $1,900 through a fraudulent scheme.

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said they were called to a residence on Rinker Road in the township at 11:36 a.m. Feb. 20, when the woman related she was contacted by an unknown caller who related to her they could move her furniture at a low cost.

She told police she sent $1,900 through a Zelle account and then realized the caller was a fraudulent caller because they never showed up at the her residence and never returned her calls.

Police said the caller used a false company name to scam the victim.
