Eldred offices

The Eldred Township business offices will be closed through Friday. The office will reopen at 9 a.m. Monday. The Public Works Department will be working and the tax collector and zoning office will have regular hours.

Community supper

The next Community Sunday Supper will be served at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville.

Monday bingo

The American Legion, Gilbert, is hosting another of its open-to-the -public bingo nights on Monday, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Polk meeting

Polk Township Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the township building in Kresgeville.

Authors & artists

Pleasant Valley 4th graders will have an experience with authors and artists at PVI on Tuesday, beginning at 5 p.m.

Bible study

McMichaels UM church continues to invite folks to participate in its Tuesday evening Bible study in person or via ZOOM. The Book of Revelation is the current topic.

Knit & Crochet

The Knit & Crochet group meeting at Zion Lutheran are scheduled to create various stitches, patterns and pieces of caring for others at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

AL Sons meet

American Legion’s Sons of the American Legion, will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday for its monthly gathering at the Legion home in Gilbert.

A.A. meeting

McMichaels Methodist church hosts A.A. meetings every Wednesday at noon and again on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Anyone needing assistance with this issue can join one of these free, confidential meetings conducted by a professional.

Library events

Registration for the Western Pocono Community Library’s Pressed Flower and Crafternoon programs opens the first of the month.

Folks are invited come explore WPCL’s toys and books with one’s little ones during the open Read & Play times: Monday 2 to 3 p.m. and Wednesday 11 to noon and 2 to 3 p.m.

April is Poetry Month. Folks are invited in to create a book spine poem.

And, the library invites families to bring their little ones to WPCL’s toys and books one during of the open Read & Play times: Mondays, from 2 to 3 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 3 p.m.

Vietnam’s Vets Day

There will be a Vietnam Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 hundred hours, March 29, at the Monroe County Courthouse Square hours, as hosted by the Pocono Chapter of the Vietnams of America.

Egg hunts set

Cornerstone Community Church, Polk Township Road, Kresgeville, is holding as egg hunt and fun time for the community on April 1 from 3 to 5 p.m., rain or shine.

The egg hunt is for toddlers through 4th grade, with prizes and raffles for older children.

There is also a time for a spring family photo and an Easter story book walk.

There will be refreshments, including cotton candy, popcorn, ice cream and beverages. Everything is free.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is hosting a free community Easter Egg Hunt on April 2, beginning at 1 p.m. It is for all ages up to and including Grade 5. There will be games, food, an egg hunt and the Easter bunny will be available for photos as well as lots of fun and prizes.

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, on Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville, is hosting a community egg hunt from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 8. In addition to the egg hunt, there will be pictures with the Easter Bunny, a bouncy house, arts & crafts and the Snack Shack will be open for food & drink.

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, invites the community’s children to participate in its reinstated Easter Egg Hunt on April 8. Children ages 2 to 10 are invited to hunt for colorful, candy-filled eggs on the lawn of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, at 924 Route 115, Saylorsburg. The start time is 10 a.m. Children should bring a basket or bag for collecting the eggs.

CWU mourns

Church Women United of Monroe County has announced the death of Marian Wells, daughter of Margaret Wyckoff Wells.

A memorial service will be held in honor of Marian’s life at 10:30 a.m., April 1, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg, 575 Main Street, Stroudsburg. Anyone may attend the funeral.

The late Marian Wells attended the CWU Christmas luncheon last December. Every year, CWU presents the Margaret Wyckoff Wells award to someone who has dedicated their service to church and community.

This year, Maggie Dellafera was presented with the award.

Outreach auction

Effort UMC’s Mission Outreach Auction will be held April 1 beginning at 6 p.m.

The items available cover many area of creative work, including those that tickle the taste buds or the collector’s whim.

Block shoot

Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is holding its April block shoot & meat raffle on April 2, beginning at 11 a.m. at 122 Gun Club Lane in Saylorsburg.

It is 12-gauge shotgun only.

Turkey dinner

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is having a turkey take-out Dinner on May 6. Dinner includes turkey, filling w/gravy, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of molasses or apple cake.

To order call 570-688-5381 no later than April 23. Celery seed dressing is available for sale in quart or pint.

Pick up dinners on May 6 at church between 4 and 5:30 p.m.
