Lenten services

Effort UMC’s weekly Lenten schedule includes a Lenten study, beginning at 5:45 p.m. Soup and salad follow the study going through 6:45 p.m.

The Lenten service begins at 7 p.m.

Children & youth can participate in a Lenten program specifically geared to their age group (ages 3-18) from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. during the Lenten season.

Tonight’s 5-church joint Lenten service is being held at St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, beginning at 7 p.m. Darlene Blocker will present the message on The Woman at the Well.

Father Bob is hosting a Lenten series of dinner and a program at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, Wednesdays, from March 1 through the end of Lent. They will continue to be held every Wednesday during Lent.

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, continues its Wednesday Lenten Bible studies tonight at 7 p.m. with the theme of looking at Jesus words of who He is. Tonight’s focus is ... “the Way, the Truth and the Life.”

The study is preceded by a carry-in or potluck supper.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will host a Healing Service at 7 p.m. today.

Busy PVEN

For the month of February the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network’s food pantry served 752 individuals; the Clothing Closet served 88 individuals; the Diaper Pantry, 67 families; and, the Menstrual Hygiene Pantry, 90 individuals.

The PVEN is hosting an Open House from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on April 22 at its site at 2336 Route 209, Sciota, on April 22.

It is a free to the public and will include a tour of the facility, giveaways, and much more.

Current needs for the food pantry include juice, spices, cereal, and tune for the food pantry; other needs are shampoo, conditioner, body wash & lotion; cleaning supplies and paper products; sheets, towels and blankets; and toothbrushes.

PV school events

The PVI PTO is slated to meet at 4 p.m. Thursday and the PV School District Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

WE Missions

Thursday, at 4:30 p.m., West End Mission will again serve its dinner at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville.

Threads needed

The PVI art teacher is seeking donations of yarn, ribbon, trims and embroidery floss.

Call the PVI school for how to donate those items.

CWU meeting

Church Women United of Monroe County will meet at 1 p.m., Friday, at Faith United Methodist, 1160 Clause Drive, Stroudsburg for a business meeting. Everyone is invited.

PVHS drama show

Once Upon a Mattress will be shown by the Pleasant Valley High School Musical Drama Club at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the PVHS auditorium. All seating is General Admission and tickets can be purchased in advance by e-mailing Donna Morris at morris.donna@pvbears.org or at the door.

Fish dinner

The Knights of Columbus, Council 7141, are sponsoring a Lenten fish dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

Effort pantry

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Homemade sale

It’s homemade soup and baked goods being sold at McMichaels Methodist church from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. this Saturday. Desserts will be packaged as whole cakes and pies and in packages of individual servings.

In addition, hot dogs, soda, coffee, tea, and water will be available in the event folks want to eat lunch to enjoy while shopping or for take-out.

Comedy Night

The American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will once again host an open-to-community Comedy Night on Saturday. Featured will be 3 Wisecrackers comedians.

Mass time moved back

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church reminds all worshippers that the Saturday evening Vigil Mass has been moved back to 5 p.m. now that daylight saving time has begun.

Generous Lions

When the Western Pocono Lions Club met on Thursday of last week, the membership present agreed to sponsor the Pleasant Valley Cubs (Youth Football) for the year and will donate the cost of $500 for said purpose. A banner will recognize the sponsorship.

In addition, the club also voted to honor two past club members by sending a donation of $100 each to the American Cancer Society in memory of Pat Buccieri and to Zion Lutheran Church in memory of Charles Rush.

The club is still collecting used eyeglasses to donate to the Lions International vision outreach programs around the world.
