The Parryville Borough Council welcomed spring by discussing Community Day planning and fire department activities.
According to council member Patty Wentz, Community Day will likely happen in the late summer or fall and may be offered in partnership with the fire department with “all proceeds going to the fire company.”
Board President Jason Smith recommended the committee explore the inclusion of food trucks since “they bring in a lot of people.”
More details about Community Day will be released as the event is planned.
The Parryville Fire Company will be hosting its annual egg hunt for residents only on April 1 at 3 p.m. The fire company will be hosting a breakfast from 8-11 a.m. on April 2.
The annual Fireman’s Carnival will be held at Bowmanstown’s Rod and Gun Club on May 5-6 where there will be “a variety of vendors and rides,” according to board member Monica Kunkle.
In other news, the borough will be hosting a special meeting to review policies and conditions for short-term rentals. The date will be advertised in the Times News when it is set.
Because no one stepped forward to apply for the open tax collector position, Jason Smith says that the borough has “reached out to Carbon County to take on the role.” He hopes that “someone will step forward to fill the role before it gets to that” and anyone interested should contact him at the borough office. The tax collector must be a resident of Parryville.
The PA Outdoor Veterans requested a letter of support as they apply for a Local Share Account grant from the state. The board unanimously approved the request.
“This organization is good for the community and the county,” Smith said.
The board also unanimously approved a small donation request from the Lehighton United Veterans Organization to support the Memorial Day services held in honor of local veterans.
