Prothonotary report

January

Prothonotary Kayla M. Semmel released her statistical report of activities for January 2023.

A total of 259 cases were started with the following: civil action, 20; custody, 15; DJ appeal, 3; divorce, 10; ejectment, 1; equity, 1; license appeal, 3; mortgage foreclosure, 17; name change, 1; partition, 1; protection from abuse, 29; quiet title, 3; replevin, 2; zoning appeal, 1; CT appointment, 1; judgments, 129; miscellaneous, 3; paternity, 2; PFSVI, 1; sti/waiv liens 2’ custody modifications, 9; writs, 5.

A total of 34 passport applications were processed in the month of January. In addition, a total of 14 renewal applicants sought assistance from the office and 39 passport photos were taken. Passports are by appointment and pictures can now be taken in the office.

Total income generated, $30,104.34; prothonotary fees, $24,065.99; custody/divorce fees, $1,850; data processing fees, $3,713.28; interest income, $109; PFA surcharge sheriff, $156.05; PFA surcharge courts, $150; stenographer fees, $60.

In addition to the above fees:

Remitted to the county for the remote access fund for remote access fees, $2,700; remitted to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, (fees collected on new cases), $4,803.63. Automation fund, $975, money collected for future automation and improvements to the office sales tax money turned over to the state for tax on passport photos, $33.15.

February

Following is the report for February 2023.

A total of 252 cases were started in February as follows: civil action, 18; custody, 11; DJ appeal, 3; declaratory judgment, 1; divorce, 12; ejectment, 3; equity, 1; license appeal, 4; mortgage foreclosure, 13; protection from abuse, 32; quite title, 1; aud/fim/reports, 2; CT appointments, 1; judgments, 120; miscellaneous, 1; PFSVI, 1; stip/waiv/liens, 1; custody modifications, 17; and writs, 10.

A total of 55 passport applications were processed in the month of February. In addition a total of 22 renewal applicants sought assistance from the office and 64 passport photos were taken. Passports are by appointment and pictures can now be taken in the office.

Total income generated, $27,519.23; prothonotary fees, $20,721.93; custody/divorce fees, $2,050; data processing fees, $3,187.50; interest income, $92.55’; PFA surcharge sheriff, $75; PFA surcharge courts, $50; stenographer fees, $1,342.25.

In addition to the above fees: remitted to the county for the remote access fund for remote access fees, $2,400; remitted to the state department of revenue (fees collected on new cases), $3,128.95; automation fund, $755 money collected for future automation and improvements to the office sales tax-money turned over to the state for tax on passport photos, $54.40.
