Safety event for children eyed for May in Jim Thorpe

A family event that teaches children about safety is making a return after a few years hiatus.

St. Luke’s Carbon County Kid Zone, in conjunction with state Sen. David Argall, Rep. Doyle Heffley and the Carbon County commissioners are working to bring back Carbon County Community Safety Day.

The event, rain or shine, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 6 at Mauch Chunk Lake Park, Jim Thorpe.

The group is looking for agencies that would like to set up a booth at the event.

Participating agencies should have an activity geared to helping children learn about some type of safety initiative.

Agencies can also hand out promotional items and other information.

To participate, agencies can send their agency name, address, phone number, email and contact person, as well as the number of staff attending, a description of the activity that is planned and how much space is needed to Mindy Graver at mgraver@cmpda.cog.pa.us before April 28.

Sponsors are also needed for the event.

Individuals and agencies who would like to become a sponsor can send a check, made payable to St. Luke’s Carbon County Kid Zone Program, to Leanne Samok, St. Luke’s Carbon Campus, 500 St. Luke’s Drive, Lehighton, PA 18235. It should also include the company’s name and contact information.

Deadline to become a sponsor is April 28.

Community Safety Day was last held in 2019 and was a huge draw for families to come out and learn about various agencies and volunteer services while making it fun for kids to learn about various safety topics.
