Weissport Borough Council

Weissport Borough Council dealt with the following matters during last week’s meeting,

• Council Member Arland Moyer reported that the borough collected $18,242 in garbage collection fees for February. The year-to-date amount is $44,982. No taxes have been collected yet.

• Council hired Filchner Graphics of Palmerton to provide lettering and graphics on two borough vehicles at a cost of $100.

• Solicitor Greg Mousseau reported that he received a draft of a resolution that he will updating to include the name of the Borough of Weissport. The resolution is for the registration, inspection, and licensing of residential rental properties. Mousseau will have the resolution ready for the next meeting.

• Council voted to cancel its membership with Sam’s Club. The membership fee was about $80 per year.

“I don’t think it’s necessary,” council member Brenda Leiby said. “Anything you would need, even if it’s something in bulk, you can get it at Lowe’s or at Walmart. Why make a trip all the way down there (Allentown)?”

Borough Secretary Aimee Shank will get a proposal from ScanTek regarding digitizing the borough’s paperwork.

“They are a company that does everything digital,” Shank said. “They would send me a proposal. They would basically make all our files accessible by computer. We wouldn’t have all this paper, all these file cabinets.”

• Movie Night, hosted by Hope Community Fellowship Church, will be Friday, May 12 in the Weissport Borough Park. The movie “Inside Out” will be shown at 8 p.m. The public is welcome.
