The East Penn Township supervisors held their monthly meeting surrounded by construction because improvements to the Community Center are in full swing.

Todd Dreisbach of ABC Heating and Cooling presented a proposal to take care of “tired and worn out” piping and internal systems. The project was approved unanimously, and the work will be done in conjunction with the construction.

Residents Sandy Fritz and Karen Klutz expressed concerns about the costs of ambulance service.

Supervisor William G. Schwab said that East Penn is covered in three geographical sections by Palmerton, Lehighton and Mahoning Valley ambulance companies. Lehighton Ambulance is always the back up for Palmerton and Mahoning.

Fritz and Klutz are concerned that they may be billed by two companies and pay a higher cost.

A waiver was extended for two years to allow parking on the grass at The Loft at Birch Wilds LLC while plans are made to construct a parking lot.

This exceeded the initial one-year request, but Schwab asked if two years would be of more help.

The Loft has been trying to build a parking lot since 2012 and has run into multiple complications.

The supervisors unanimously rejected a weight study be conducted on Blue Mountain Road.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has given notice that the road will be used for logging operations.

PennDOT will use the road regardless of the weight study, and “why spend the money if it’s a done deal?” Schwab said.

Roadmaster Brandon Bradford said, “it’s a shame they want to use that road; we just did all that work to improve it.”

A new food truck is needed at Riverview Park. The Crazy Chicken Lady has given notice that she will no longer be operating her truck. Interested food truck vendors should contact the office.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be at 1 p.m. March 25 at East Penn Community Park for children ages 1-12. The Easter bunny will be on site for photos.

Individually wrapped candy donations are welcome; drop off at the office.
