Jim Thorpe man charged with violating parole, sent to jail

A Jim Thorpe man has been charged with violating parole.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Deputy Tyler Dietz of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office in the case against Justin Cannon:

On Dec. 1, the state held a parole revocation hearing for Cannon, 20, and ruled that Cannon did violate the terms and conditions of parole.

The Commonwealth revoked the parole of Cannon and ordered a sentence of 90 days in the Carbon County Correctional Facility effective Feb. 1.

The sentence would be vacated if Cannon completes special provisions which entailed a drug and alcohol evaluation and following all recommendations and complete 100 hours of community service work before the date of Feb. 1.

A report prepared by Probation Officer Matthew Hassick on Feb. 1 stated Cannon did not complete the special provisions given on the sentence.

On Feb. 1, the Sheriff’s Office received a common pleas bench warrant from the Carbon County Clerk of Common Courts indicating that Cannon failed to appear to serve his sentence on Feb. 1 as ordered and signed by the Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Cannon faces charges of default in required appearance.

Cannon is incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 monetary bail.

He waived charges to court during a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
