Walker Twp. waiting for new park budget

Walker Township is still waiting on a new budget for the Wildcat Park upgrade project.

The township engineer is working on that budget.

“We need to get a budget together to submit to DCNR before we can move forward,” Township Secretary Ann Ostergaard reported.

“We need to know how much the must-haves cost, then decide what equipment to get.”

Ostergaard reported that they did receive the initial $25,000 from the grant.

“The money had to be put into a separate interest-bearing account, and the interest needs to be paid back to the state.”

Some of the old equipment like the sliding board and the merry-go-round are to be replaced. A section for toddlers and very young children will be created, along with an area for older children. Upgrades are also planned for the basketball and tennis courts.

Supervisor Craig Wagner suggested printing up a tentative artist rendering of the proposed project and submit that plus a letter to local businesses who might be interested in sponsoring some of the upgrades.

The township also has a recreation account with $11,561 in it as of the end of February.

In other business, the New England Fire Company has several events planned: March 31, ham ticket drawing; April 7, Kids Easter Egg Hunt and fire house filling sale; April 7, Good Friday seafood combo dinner - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.; May 13, Chicken BBQ drive-thru, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
