The Class 2A Southeast Regional wrestling tournament is set for this weekend at Freedom High School.

A total of eight Times News area wrestlers qualified for the event, which begins Friday with preliminary bouts at 4:30 p.m.

Northwestern and Lehighton each have three wrestlers in the tournament.

Luke Fugazzotto, a district champion last week at 160 pounds, Dalton Clymer and Buck Miller qualified for the Tigers.

Clymer and Miller were both state qualifiers last season.

Aidan Gruber, Jacob Ferguson and Reese Balk will all look to advance to states for the Indians. Gruber was a state qualifier a year ago.

Daniel Lucykanish and Derek King are regional qualifiers for Palmerton.

Friday’s schedule will include quarterfinals at approximately 6:30 p.m., followed by first round consolations at 8:30.

Action resumes Friday with second round consolations at 9:30 a.m., followed by semifinals and third round consolations at 11. The fourth round consolations and seventh-place matches for the alternate position will take place at 12:30 p.m., followed by the parade of champions at 3:30.

The championship and consolation finals (first-, third- and fifth-place) will be held at 4 p.m. on three mats.

The top six wrestlers in each weight class in Class 2A will advance to next week’s state tournament in Hershey.
