Lenten services

Effort UMC will begin its Lenten study tonight in Wesley Hall and it will be held each Wednesday during Lent with a time of fellowship being held from 5:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. with soup and salad. The study will begin at 5:45 p.m. and go through 6:45 p.m. The study is: He Chose the Nails by Max Lucado. For the required donation of a book call the church at 570-629-1890. Lenten services will follow at 7 p.m.

St. Peter’s UMC has announced its theme of its Lenten studies which begin tonight: Who do You say I am?

The evening begins with a carry-in (potluck) supper at 6 p.m. The service begins at 7 p.m.

The 6-week study will be led by Pastor Zabdiel Khan based on a question Jesus asked of his disciples: Who do you say I am?

Tonights study will focus on his words: I am the Bread of Life. Next week’s will focus on: Light of the World.

Jerusalem UCC, Trachsville, is hosting the four-church joint-Lenten service tonight at 7 p.m. The Rev. Deb Scheffey will preach.

Church offering envelopes received will be forwarded to the respective churches.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will hold two midweek Lenten worship services.

The first will be at 7 p.m., March 8, with the topic: Stations of the Cross. On March 22, the service will be a Service of Healing and Holy Communion.

PVE event

Pleasant Valley Elementary School is holding an Early Intervention Kindergarten registration on Thursday, for details contact the school.

TaxAide reminder

Salem UCC in Gilbert hosts the AARP TaxAide volunteer help program for income tax returns from 9 a.m. to noon, Thursdays.

One can sign in for help and the taxes will be prepared in the order listed.

OES meeting

Members of the Eastern Star Monroe Chapter #99 will be meeting at the Masonic Center in Bartonsville at 7 p.m., tomorrow. A light supper will be served members at 6 p.m.

Several recently deceased members will be remembered.

WE Food Pantry

The Kunkletown-based West End Pantry is open from 9 a.m. to noon the first and third Saturday of the month.

Spring event

The Pleasant Valley High School Class of 2024 is hosting the Almost Spring Craft & Vendor Fair on Saturday in the New Gym from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission is free, and the concession stand will be open.

Ross museum

The Ross Township Historical Society will open its museum to the public on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no charge for admission and all are welcome to view photographs, artifacts and items specific to Ross Township.

The museum is located at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg. This month featured will be an exhibit of signage and items from the “Ye Olde Saylor’s Inne.”

Sweet syrup days

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is sponsors Public Maple Sugaring Days on the first two Saturdays of March.

Featured is a 90-minute tour of the sugarbush focusing on the history of maple syrup from the Native Americans to the early settlers in this region.

Attendees will complete the educational tour at the pancake station where the finished product is served over freshly made pancakes. Preregistration is required by calling 570-629-3061. Participants may choose a time from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for their 90-minute tour.

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is hosting its March block shot & meat raffle on Sunday at 122 Gun Club Road in Saylorsburg, beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing for some time.

Habitat sales

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity has announced it will host its warehouse sales not only this past Saturday, but also every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the last Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sales of everything new from furniture to various supplies is offered at discount prices at its warehouse on Memorial Drive in Tobyhanna.

C’hill Historical

The first Historical Society meeting of 2023 for the Chestnuthill Township Historical Society will be at 6 p.m., March 15, at the Park Building on Route 715.

Lions annual event

Camelback Resort will host the 2023 District 14-U Lions annual convention on April 1. RSVP’s must be made by March 17.

Paint party

The Western Pocono Community Library is hosting a paint party of a spring cherry blossom sunset on March 18 beginning at 6 p.m.

Tickets must be bought in advance. They are available at the WPCL Circulation Desk. Minimum age is 16 to participate and all supplies will be provided. Snacks and nonalcoholic beverages are welcome.

PVEN Open House

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network has announced an Open House coming on April 22 and will take place between 9 and 11 a.m. at the PVEN site at 2336 Route 209, Sciota.

Conservation Camp

Monroe County Conservation District and Monroe County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs are sponsoring a residential Conservation Camp focusing on teens ages 14 through 2023 high school graduates.

It is being held from July 15 through Saturday, July 22, and is generously supported by the Kettle Creek Environmental Fund and numerous service organizations.

A highlight is an overnight canoe trip on the Delaware River.
