Carbon County Commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday.

• Approved advertising for the repaving of boat launch B and the restroom replacement at Mauch Chunk Lake Park.

• Approved advertising for bids for the HVAC replacement project at the Carbon County Animal Shelter.

• Approved the transfer of funds to cover the salary of the treatment court coordinator that was established by the county salary board on Feb. 16.

• Approved the award of a Rights and Services Act grant in the amount of $93,580 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency Victim/Witness program with the district attorney’s office for the term of Jan. 1 2023 to Dec. 31, 2024.

• Approved a revision to the bylaws of the Carbon County Animal Shelter Advisory Commission establishing that reappointments will be for three-year terms.

• Ratified the proposals with Corporate Environments of Bethlehem for furnishings for the offices of Children and Youth Services at 525 Iron St., Lehighton. The cost for the contracts is $297,773.37. Commissioner Chris Lukasevich voted against the contracts because he felt COSTARS contracts may not always be the cheapest.

• Approved a quote for a 2023 Polaris Ranger 1000 Sport EPS for use at Mauch Chunk Lake Park. The purchase through Blue Ridge Polaris of Wapwallopen is $16,070.50.

• Resignations: Beth A. Marsteller of Palmerton, caseworker, WIOA, effective March 2; Christopher J. Fisher of Lehighton, lifeguard, effective Feb. 22; Casey M. Hanley of Lehighton, Alexandra N. Janner of Nesquehoning and Chloe M. Kruslicky of Summit Hill, lifeguard, all effective Feb. 21.

• Changes of status: Tracy L. Hunsicker of Jim Thorpe, from part-time K-9 officer to K-9 officer, effective Feb. 27; Nicholas Goldberg of Palmerton, from IT system administrator to IT director, effective Feb. 27; and Coren Kintz of Jim Thorpe, from administrative assistant to fiscal/legal assistant, commissioners’ office, effective Feb. 27.

• Hire as recommended by department supervisor: Stacy Ahner of Palmerton and Rian Shubeck of Summit Hill, part-time K-9 officers, effective Feb. 28.

• Court appointment: Lucian R. DeLeon of Whitehall, probation officer I, effective Feb. 27.

• Sheriff change of status: Nicole M. Thalmann of Newfoundland, from deputy sheriff to sergeant, effective Feb. 17.
