Palmerton voted last week to submit a grant application to the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau to refine its clock park in the downtown.
The grant would be used for improvements to the little park in the 400 block of Delaware Avenue.
Borough Manager Donna McGarry said the total cost of the project is $18,835.
Of that, McGarry said the borough is requesting $9,418, or half of the total cost, from the PMVB grant.
She said work would involve taking down the trees, grinding the roots, replanting trees and doing some perennial plantings there and installing two pole lights for lighting there.
Previously the borough used PMVB grant money to improve a basketball court and the entrance to Palmerton.
McGarry said she budgeted funds from the borough’s Recreation Fund toward beautification of the clock park, since the PMVB grants are a 50-50 cost share.
McGarry said the park was developed about 20 years ago when the late Ralph and Daniel Cipko donated the clock that fronts the park.
