Lenten food drive started

St. Mark’s and St. John’s Episcopal Church, Race Street, Jim Thorpe suggests that instead of giving up something for Lent this year, give something away instead. Everyone in the community is welcome to take part.

The church is conducting a Reverse Lenten Calendar, which contains a list of nonperishable food items for each day of Lent. A person or family would place an item for each day into a paper bag and then deliver the bag to the church before Easter.

“The purpose of these bags is to help fill our empty shelves in our Food Pantry and Blessing Box,” explained Karen Horvath, Parish Secretary. “It’s a great community effort, where by participating, we are loving our neighbor and taking care of each other during these very difficult times.”

Contact the church at 570-325-2241 to pick up a bag with a list of the food.
