There were two special visitors from the Carbon County Environmental Center at the Palmerton Concourse Club’s February meeting - Jeannie Carl, naturalist, and Gadget, an 8-year-old screech owl. The rehabilitated screech owl is a permanent resident at the center because he only has one eye after being hit by a car. He eats mice, chicks, rats, and will live to about 16 years of age. He is one of many animals being cared for at the refuge. The center is open daily year round and welcomes visitors of all ages. Visit its website for information on hours and programs.
