Lehighton Police Log

Lehighton Police Department reported on the following incidents:

• At 7:02 a.m. Feb. 17 police, along with the Lehighton Fire Department, responded to a two-vehicle crash at the area of North Eighth and Coal streets. A 2016 Ford Focus driven by a 22-year-old woman from Nesquehoning was on North Eighth Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at Coal Street and entered the intersection, where it struck a 2010 Ford Focus driven by an 83-year-old woman from Lehighton, which was traveling west on Coal Street.

After initial impact, the Ford Focus veered off to the right and ended up striking a telephone pole and concrete post before coming to rest. The Ford Fusion came to rest along Coal Street.

Both drivers had minor injuries and were treated at St. Luke’s Carbon Campus.

The 22-year-old woman will be cited for a stop sign violation.

Police were assisted on scene by the Lehighton Fire Department, Lehighton fire police and Lehighton L & P Department.

• At 9:10 a.m. Feb. 16, police were patrolling when Michael Balogach, 42, of Lehighton, was observed violating a local ordinance. Balogach was stopped and identified himself, then fled on a bicycle.

Balogach was not located at that time, but an outstanding warrant for his arrest was discovered.

Disorderly conduct charges were filed with the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office.
