Weissport shuffles officers

Weissport Borough Council changed its leadership lineup Monday night, including naming a councilman who resigned on Feb. 6 as its president.

After Arland Moyer Sr. resigned as council president, Thomas Ketchledge’s letter of resignation was rescinded and he was appointed council president.

The meeting started with Moyer Sr. stepping away from council’s top seat, but remaining on the board.

“Due to all the controversy going on over the past few months, as of now, Feb. 20, 2023, I am stepping down as council president and will move back into the council member seat,” Moyer Sr. said.

Moyer Sr. did not give specific reasons for resigning as council president. He had been cutting back on some of his responsibilities the last year. Moyer said that he will be turning in keys and bank cards that belong to the borough.

Moyer will remain a councilman and will handle garbage, taxes and sewer responsibilities.

He requested that council contact him with any calls or emails about them. He also requested that council consider putting in a separate phone line for the garbage/tax department in the borough hall. Council will check with the borough’s phone provider on options.

“I’d like to thank council for all the time I served as council president,” Moyer said.

After Moyer Sr.’s status changed on council, borough Solicitor Greg Mousseau took over the meeting temporarily because the borough didn’t have a president or vice president because Ketchledge, who had been vice president, resigned on Feb. 6.

Ketchledge was at Monday’s meeting and councilman James Osborne made a motion to rescind his letter of resignation and put him back on council.

The remaining council members approved the motion unanimously, and Osborne then made another motion to nominate Ketchledge to serve as president. Council voted unanimously to approve the appointment.

Councilwoman Brenda Leiby nominated Joseph Foster to fill the vice president position and he was approved unanimously.
