Carbon County officials adjusted a position that will provide treatment courts with a full-time coordinator.

On Thursday, the county salary board approved establishing the position of a treatment court coordinator at $19.21 per hour, effective Feb. 9, and abolished a previously approved treatment court coordinator/court grant manager at $18.99 per hour.

The position was first approved in January in a 3-2 vote.

At the time, Commissioner Rocky Ahner said that while he is in favor of the coordinator position, he voted no because the courts had added on court grant manager to the position as well.

He said that he felt the position should be a standalone position and not a dual duty position for treatment courts and court grant writing outside of treatment court.

Several participants of the specialty courts also spoke out for the need for the programs and how the programs saved their lives.
