Pickup crashes into Tamaqua store, driver flown from scene

A male driver was seriously injured Sunday afternoon in a crash in Tamaqua.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when the driver of a pickup truck lost control while driving north on Route 309. He crossed all four lanes, crossed a lot and slammed through the wall of Country Tile.

Members of the Citizens and South Ward fire companies and the Tamaqua Rescue Squad worked to free the driver from the wreckage.

He was treated at the scene by members of the Tamaqua ambulance and Lehighton paramedics.

Members of the West Penn fire company set up a landing zone for LifeFlight 6 on Dairy Road in South Tamaqua. The victim was flown to the Lehigh Valley Hospital trauma center in Allentown.

Tamaqua fire police maintained traffic control at the scene. Tamaqua police are investigating the incident.
