Palmerton Pharmacy to open Monday

A new independent drugstore seeks to fill a void in Palmerton.

Palmerton Pharmacy plans to hold a soft opening on Monday, said assistant manager Umesh Patel.

“We will be 100% open,” Patel said. “There will be a grand opening to come.”

The pharmacy is located at the former BB & T Bank at 330 Delaware Ave.

“It’s family-oriented,” said manager Kathy Moyer. “Community-driven.”

Moyer said the pharmacy offers free delivery, free multi-dose packing, and free diabetes and glucose testing.

“We’re just a smaller version of the chains,” Moyer said. “We carry all the regular medications, use the same wholesalers.”

Moyer said the pharmacy is a welcome addition to help offset the loss of Shipman’s Pharmacy, which closed in April after a 50-year run.

“We can give them a homey-feeling, personalized service,” she said. “There’s a need for it.”

Moyer said the pharmacy, which will have about five employees to start, may look to expand its services in the future.

“If there’s a need for it, we will definitely take it into consideration,” she said. “We’re looking forward to meeting the community in Palmerton.”

Moyer noted that the pharmacy accepts all insurances, including Medicare and Medicaid.

Palmerton Pharmacy will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9-2 Saturday, and closed Sunday.

Subscriptions may be emailed to palmertonpharmacy@gmail.com.

Moyer said they also have various other surrounding independent pharmacies, including Lehighton Pharmacy, Effort Pharmacy, Pocono Community Pharmacy, Wind Gap Community Pharmacy, Mount Bethel Pharmacy, Pocono Community Pharmacy 2 in East Stroudsburg, Macungie Pharmacy and Emmaus Pharmacy.
