Letter to the Editor: Long list of complaints against PPL

Dear Editor,

If the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission decides to seriously solicit customer complaints as part of its investigation into PPL policies and practices, the first thing the Commission will need to do is hire more staff. The PUC may be overwhelmed with the volume of consumer responses.

I’ve had the misfortune of being a PPL customer (I’ve had no choice) for the past 22 years. In that time, I’ve accumulated a list of personal complaints and grievances against PPL - some publicized - that would fill this page. The corporation is the most underperforming, anti-consumer utility I’ve ever encountered, and my assessment of PPL seems to be shared by most PPL customers I’ve spoken with over the years.

PPL’s mea culpa over this latest scandal rings hollow because the error is just another example of business as usual for this company, and nothing will change until PPL is forced to change. You can be assured it will happen again at some point. It’s time for a serious PUC audit of PPL, from top-to-bottom. PPL needs to be held accountable and substantial changes need to be made in its business model for the sake of its consumers.
