A Philadelphia woman was sentenced to jail time in three criminal cases she previously entered guilty pleas.
Carbon County President Judge Roger N. Nanovic imposed prison terms on Princess Betsy Gonzalez-Serrano, 35.
She was arrested on all the charges the same day, Feb. 24, 2021, in Lehighton and Franklin Township.
In Franklin Township, she was involved in a hit and run crash, which caused considerable damages. She then was arrested by Lehighton police for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. She was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child as she had her daughter in the vehicle at the time of the incidents.
On the charge of endangering, she was sentenced to serve four months to five years with credit for 144 days already served and paroled.
On a DUI charge, she was sentenced to serve 72 hours to five years, pay a fine of $2,000, license suspended for 18 months, supply a DNA sample, credited for 149 days, and paroled.
On a charge of accidents involving damage to a vehicle, she was placed on probation for a year and ordered to make restitution of $5,000 to the victim. All the terms run concurrently. She must also render 100 hours of community service.
Other cases
Shawn Michael Bonawitz, 36, of Pine Grove, was also sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail on a DUI count. He was fined $1,000, license suspended for a year, and must undergo a mental health evaluation.
He was arrested on Nov. 12, 2021, by Lehighton police.
Both defendants must also pay court costs of more than $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
