Local Roundup: Results from Feb. 7

Palmerton swept Northern Lehigh in a Colonial League doubleheader Tuesday.

The two Bomber squads ended regular season play with a combined record of 36-8.

Elsewhere, the Panther Valley and Jim Thorpe boys, as well as the Northwestern girls, also picked up wins.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lehighton-Panther Valley

Michael Pascoe scored nine fourth-quarter points to help Panther Valley hold off Lehighton for a 61-59 Schuylkill League victory.

Tied at halftime, the Panthers used nine points in the third quarter from Stephen Hood to help PV grab the lead. Pascoe’s big final frame helped seal the win.

Hood finished with a team-high 18 points, while Pascoe added 12. The Panthers, who improved to 12-9 overall and 5-9 in the league, also received 10 from Chase Weaver.

The Indians’ Joe Roth poured in a game-high 25 points. Blake Roberts also tossed in 18.

The loss ended Lehighton’s season at 8-14, and 3-11.

In the JV game, PV registered a 40-25 victory as Brody Breiner scored 13 points.

Palmerton cruised to a 65-33 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh in both team’s regular-season finale.

The Bombers’ Kendall Robinson scored a game-high 19 points, including 11 in the third quarter.

The winners, now 17-5 overall and 13-4 in the league, also received 10 points from Justin Sebelin.

Bryce LoPinto paced the Bulldogs (1-21; 1-16) with 15 points, while Nick Buskirk added eight.

Palmerton will return to action Saturday in the Colonial League playoffs.

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Jim Thorpe closed out its season on a winning note, defeating Pine Grove 60-54 in Schuylkill League action.

Andrew Warner scored a game-high 25 points for the Olympians, who ended the year 10-12 overall and 6-8 in the league.

Warner scored 16 of his points in the second half to help Thorpe rebound from a halftime deficit.

The winners also received 13 points from Jasper DiSanto (, ALONG WITH) and 10 from Noah Rosahac.

Brandon Unger led the Cardinals (8-14; 5-9) with 20 points.

Marian-Mahanoy Area

Mahanoy Area rallied from an early deficit to gain a 52-43 Schuylkill League victory over Marian and end the Colts’ win streak at five games.

The Golden Bears trailed by nine points after the first quarter, and the deficit reached double digits in the second before they rallied for the win.

Jace Yedsena and Kadin Styka both scored 11 points to lead Mahanoy, while Brady Alansky added 10.

Marian received a game-high 17 points from Frank Valente. Jesse Rodino also chipped in with 12.

The Division 3 champion Colts ended regular season play at 14-8, and league action at 11-2. The Bears finished 18-4 and 10-3.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Tamaqua led Blue Mountain after three quarters, but the Eagles rallied in the final frame to gain a 62-56 Schuylkill League victory.

Brogan Campbell scored 24 points for the winners, who trailed by two but outscored the Blue Raiders 17-9 over the final eight minutes.

Tamaqua was led by Connor Dillon’s 13 points, while Cooper Ansbach and Mason Ligenza both finished with 11.

The Raiders ended the season 9-13 overall, and 5-9 in the league. Blue Mountain, - who will be playing in the upcoming league playoffs - is 17-5 and 12-2.

A huge first quarter propelled Nativity to a 76-27 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Trey Keating scored 10 of his 15 points in the opening frame as the Green Wave scored 37 points to open up a 26-point advantage.

Nativity’s Bailey Ziolkowski led all scorers with 27 points.

The Wreckers, now 1-18 overall and 0-13 in the league, were paced by Ian McLaurin’s 11 points. The winners improved to 8-12 and 6-6.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. Lehigh-Palmerton

Palmerton held off rival Northern Lehigh to end the regular season with a 50-45 Colonial League victory.

The Blue Bombers, who were led by Hannah Barry’s 22-points, grabbed an eight-point lead heading into the final quarter and then fought off the Bulldogs for the win.

Beth Morgan contributed 12 points to the Palmerton cause, while Sydney Frantz added 11.

Nolehi received a team-high 19 points from Aubrey Pollard, and Katelyn Barthold chipped in with 12.

The win lifts Palmerton to 19-3 overall and 16-1 in the league, while the Bulldogs fell to 13-9 and 9-8.

Both teams will be participating in the upcoming league and district playoffs.

Northwestern-Catasauqua

Catasauqua battled Northwestern for a quarter before the Tigers took control and rolled to a 50-21 Colonial League victory.

Paige Sevrain scored five of her 13 points in the second quarter to help Northwestern extend a three-point lead into a 17-point halftime cushion.

Cara Thomas also had 13 points for the Tigers, (-) who are on a 20-game winning streak and ended the regular season 21-1 and the league schedule with a 16-1 mark. Brook Balliet chipped in with eight points.

For the Rough Riders (10-12; 6-11), Delaney Troxell registered a team-high eight points.

Danny Wehr scored a team-high 16 points for PV, while Gio Williams chipped in with 13.

8TH GRADE

Weatherly-Tamaqua

Tamaqua registered a 36-28 victory over Weatherly.

Landon Kamant led the Blue Raiders with nine points. Greg Turpak added seven, while Jacob Denning chipped in with six.

The Wreckers received a game-high 11 points from Chance Stauffer.

7TH GRADE

Weatherly-Tamaqua

Vince Cuddeford hit a three-pointer with 21 seconds left to lift Weatherly to a 30-27 win over Tamaqua.

Mitchell Knock paced the Wreckers with 15 points, while the Blue Raiders received a game-high 17 from Greg Turpak.
