Four area teams in Colonial League playoffs

Four area teams will be participating in the Colonial League basketball playoffs, which begin on Friday.

Both Palmerton teams, as well as the Northern Lehigh and Northwestern girls will be vying for a league title.

The Blue Bomber boys, with an overall record of 17-5 and a league mark of 13-4, have earned the No. 4 seed and will face fifth-seeded Bangor in a quarterfinal contest Saturday. That game will be played at Palmerton at 6 p.m. The winner of that contest will advance to next Wednesday’s semifinal round and take on top-seeded Notre Dame.

The Palmerton and Northwestern girls both finished with identical 16-1 league marks and split their two contests. The Bombers, however, won the West Division based on a tiebreaker and earned the No. 1 seed - as well as a bye into the semifinals.

The Tigers, seeded third, will host No. 6 Northern Lehigh in Tuesday’s quarterfinals at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs, who just dropped a 54-23 decision to Northwestern last Friday, had a league record of 9-8. The winner of that contest takes on second-seeded Notre Dame Tuesday in the semifinals.

Palmerton, meanwhile, will await the winner of Bangor and Pen Argyl in the other semifinal matchup.

All semifinals games will take place at Catasauqua, while next Friday’s finals will be held at Freedom.
