Wildcat Park renovations moving forward in Walker

Walker Township Supervisors are planning upgrades to the electrical system at the pavilion at Wildcat Park.

Roadmaster Chad Felty presented an estimate for the electrical work project.

“The total cost is $7,022, plus $146 per day to rent a ditch witch,” Felty said.

The cost includes conduit, wire, a pole box, and the rest of the supplies needed. Township officials said they can use American Rescue Plan funds for the project.

The project includes installing security cameras for the pavilion and the park.

“We’re looking to run Cat-5 data wire,” Felty said. “That’s what the current cameras in the municipal building use.”

The supervisors discussed other possibilities for the cameras, including a cellular phone program or Wi-Fi.

Supervisor Craig Wagner suggested that Felty do more research on the security cameras. Felty is looking to start the work as soon as possible.

Plans for the renovations to the park are moving forward. The township received the first $25,000 of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant. The township established the park commission in June 2021 as one of the grant requirements. Another requirement is a budget for the project.

The main renovations will be to the basketball courts and the tennis courts, which they hope to do in the spring.

Other actions:

Supervisors passed a measure to have the credit limits on the township credit card increased. Several times they were unable to make purchases for the township. The card used by Secretary Ann Ostergaard. Ostergaard will be raised from $500 to $1,000, and the card used by Felty will be raised from $1,500 to $2,000.
