The Panther Valley girls basketball team secured its spot in the postseason with a win on Wednesday, and star player Maddison Maynard hit a career milestone in the process.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mahanoy Area-Panther Vy.

Maddison Maynard’s big game sparked Panther Valley to a key 69-49 non-league victory over Mahanoy Area.

Maynard not only scored a game-high 34 points, but in the process, recorded the 1,000th point of her high school career.

Sera Robin scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half for Panther Valley (11-9), which secured its spot in Class 2A.

Felicia Bro led the way for the Golden Bears (4-16) with 30 points.

Northwestern rolled to a 52-16 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Paige Sevrain posted 10 of her game-high 12 points in the first half for the Tigers, who took a 24-6 lead into halftime.

Rylee McGinley scored 10 points for Northwestern, which improved to 19-1 overall and 15-1 in the league.

Desiree Nales paced the Falcons (3-17; 2-13) with six points.

Northwestern kept its postseason hopes alive with a commanding 44-26 Colonial League win over Salisbury.

The Tigers improved to 9-10 overall, and 7-8 in the league with three games remaining. Cayden Fitch led all scorers with a 17-point performance, while Gavin Nelson added 10.

Jake Zellin and Thomas Lovelidge both led the Falcons (5-15; 5-10) with nine points apiece.

Panther Vy.-No. Schuylkill

Wesley Urban scored 14 points, and Sam Will added 10 to lead North Schuylkill to a 48-20 win over Panther Valley at Minersville’s recent seventh- and eighth-grade tournament.

Tyler Hall’s six points paced the Panthers.

Panther Valley-Nativity

Nativity edged Panther Valley 29-28 at Minersville’s seventh- and eighth-grade tournament.

The Panthers came back from a late nine-point deficit, but fell just short in a one-point loss to the Hilltoppers.

Stephen Karinch led Nativity with 10 points.

Jarell Thomas was tough inside, leading the Panthers with nine points.

JR. HIGH GIRLS

8th GRADE

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe posted a 26-12 victory over Tamaqua.

Lee led the Olympians with nine points, while both Yuhas and Yeakel added seven apiece.

Millie Black paced the Raiders with five points.

7th GRADE

Panther Valley-Weatherly

Panther Valley defeated Weatherly for a 29-20 win.

The Panthers’ Danika Blazosky finished with a game-high 14 points, while Isabella D’Ancona chipped in with seven.

Mya Binder and Courtney Snyder both tied for a Wreckers’ high, as each recorded eight points.

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Millie Black’s 19 points led Tamaqua to a 27-18 win over Jim Thorpe.

Naomi Knitter added four points in the win.

Yuhas had five points for the Olympians, while Strohl added four.
