State police at Lehighton report on crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 7:42 p.m. on Jan. 22 along Route 534 in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Tyler R. Taylor, 20, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound near the intersection with Meriwill Lane, and coming down a hill when he lost control of the vehicle on the slippery and snowy roadway.

After striking a rock, the rock dislodged from the ground and the Jeep began to overturn. The Jeep was spinning clockwise while on its driver’s side and struck a large tree with its roof. The trunk compartment compressed and the vehicle began to spin counterclockwise and slid on its driver’s side for about 40 feet before coming to rest in a wooded area.

Taylor and his passenger, Casey S. Taylor, 18, of Kunkletown, were not injured. The Jeep sustained heavy damages and was towed.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 9:05 a.m. on Jan. 23 along Dogwood Lane in Ross Township, Monroe County. Jean Trach, 80, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2010 Hyundai Elantra eastbound and attempting to negotiate a left curve on the road when she lost control. The vehicle began to slide sideways and went onto the berm for about 30 yards before striking an embankment. The vehicle continued and struck a tree with the front bumper area. After impact the vehicle came to rest facing east.

Trach was not injured. The vehicle sustained heavy damages to the front end and was towed.

• Another one-vehicle crash occurred at 4:01 p.m. on Jan. 22 along Silver Spring Boulevard in Eldred Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Rodney C. Cameron, 72, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger truck southbound and approaching a left curve in the road and he failed to stay in his lane of travel. The truck went onto the east shoulder and struck a utility pole. The vehicle sheared off the pole with heavy damages to the front end of the vehicle. The Ford continued another 65 feet when the brakes were applied.

The vehicle skidded another 90 feet in a grass area before coming to rest. Cameron was not injured. The vehicle was towed. He was cited for the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash occurred at 1:14 p.m. on Jan. 25 along Doney Road, in Polk Township. Troopers said Eric J. Wawrzynski, 19, of Effort, was driving a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe northbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck a tree. Wawrzynski sustained a minor injury but refused medical treatment. The vehicle was towed.
