Walnutport restaurant abruptly closes

A trendy restaurant that highlights Northern Italian cuisine in Walnutport has suddenly closed.

Citing COVID and inflation, A Ca Mia at 4330 Lehigh Drive in Lehigh Township ceased operations last week.

A sign has been posted on the door of the restaurant that opened in November 2012.

“I am sorry to inform you that A Ca Mia is closed (due) to the long-term effects of COVID and inflation,” the posted message reads.

However, a Whitehall restaurant has agreed to honor those who have unused gift cards they purchased from A Ca Mia.

Riley’s Restaurant & Pub, located at 4505 Main St. in Whitehall, posted on its Facebook page Sunday that it will honor A Ca Mia gift cards with the following terms:

• Customers may use their gift card on up to half of their check. For example, those with a $100 check may use $50 on A Ca Mia gift card, and $50 will be deducted on their gift card only to use next time.

• The A Ca Mia gift cards are not good on Wednesdays, and they ask if customers’ service is great to tip on full amount. They may not be used on take out or to go orders. Customers will also have to pay tax. Riley’s also ask that gift card customers call them for reservations, and mention that they are a A Ca Mia gift card holder, as they want to ensure that they are fully staffed.

• The 50% will be good on the entire check, but not tax. Tax must be 6% on the entire check.

Riley’s is a smoking-allowed establishment; however, it is not permitted in the dining room. There is on-street parking in front and behind.

Those who are still not satisfied should contact their bank associated with the card in which they paid for their gift cards.
