State police at Fern Ridge report on crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported at 7:49 a.m. on Jan. 21 along Interstate 80 in East Side Boro in Carbon County. Troopers said a 2005 Jeep Liberty operated by Samantha E. Kotarsky, 19, of Mountain Top, was struck by another vehicle whose driver fled the scene. Kotarsky was not injured.

• A second hit-and-run was reported at 4:19 p.m. on Jan. 19 along I80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Elarabi Boutebiba, 39, of Durham, North Carolina, was driving a 2017 Kenworth tractor with trailer in the left lane while westbound when another vehicle, attempted to merge into the right lane while passing Boutebiba. The other vehicle side swiped the tractor causing minor damages. The other driver then fled the scene.

Boutebiba was not injured.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 9:58 a.m. on Jan. 12 along Route 534 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Brooke M. Lare, 22, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion northbound during foggy conditions with a wintry mix. The vehicle crossed the fog line causing Lare to lose control. The vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole.

Lare sustained a nose injury and was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital - Carbon, Franklin Township, by Lehighton ambulance. The vehicle had to be towed. Lare was cited for the crash.

• A crash was reported at 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 23 along Bartonsville Woods Road, in Jackson Township, Monroe County. Troopers said a 2020 Hyundai Elantra, operated by Emmanuel S. Markozanis, 21, of Effort, left the road and struck a tree. Markozanis was not injured. He was cited for the crash.

On the same day at 10:26 a.m. a crash occurred in the same location with John C. Klostermann, 54, of Saylorsburg, driving a 2005 Hyundai XG when it left the road and struck a tree. Klostermann was not injured. He was cited for the crash.
