The Marian boys and girls basketball teams both recorded wins on Monday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Salem Christian-Marian

Twelve different players scored for Marian as the Colts rolled to a 66-30 non-league victory over Salem Christian.

Joe Walko posted nine of his game-high 11 points in the opening quarter as Marian raced to a lead. Julius Currie and Bruce Hopeck both added five points during a second frame in which the Colts outscored their opponent by an 18-2 margin.

The winners - who have won nine of their last 10 games - improved to 12-7. Frank Valente also aided the Marian cause with 10 points, while Jake Bobish added nine rebounds.

For the Eagles, now 3-14, Nick Marinari scored a team-high 10 points.

Palmerton-Northampton

A big third quarter gave Palmerton the lead, but Northampton came back in the fourth to earn a 46-43 non-league victory.

The Blue Bombers trailed by eight points at halftime, but stormed back with a 17-5 period to go ahead of the Konkrete Kids. Palmerton, now 15-4, couldn’t hold the advantage and have now dropped three of its last four games.

Parker Christman paced Northampton (9-10) with 12 points. The Bombers received a game-high 17 points from Brayden Hosier, while Jacob Grammes chipped in with 12.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marian-Shenandoah Valley

Marian pulled away from Shenandoah Valley in the second quarter and cruised to a 52-27 Schuylkill League victory.

Fatikha Tikhtova scored six points in the second, and Frankie Martinelli added five as the Fillies outscored the Devils 24-7 to take a 22-point halftime lead.

Martinelli and Ashley Pleban both finished with 10 points to pace Marian, winners of 14 straight.

Tikhtova ended with eight to help the Fillies improve to 17-1 overall and 11-0 in the league.

Shenandoah (9-11; 5-6) received a game-high 12 points from Hannah DeAngelo.

Pine Grove-Tamaqua

A balanced attack lifted Pine Grove to a 59-43 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

Kailen Felty led the Cardinals (11-8 overall; 7-5 SL) with a game-high 17 points.

Samantha Plasha led the way for the Blue Raiders (5-15; 2-11) with a team-high 12 points. Sarah Hope added 10.

North Schuylkill-Lehighton

North Schuylkill remained undefeated in Schuylkill League action after posting a 69-30 victory over Lehighton.

Maddy Wetzel poured in a game-high 19 points for the Spartans, who are now 16-2 overall and 12-0 in the league.

Wetzel scored 12 of her points in the opening quarter as the winners jumped out to a 23-5 lead.

The Indians (5-15; 3-9) were paced by Taylor Bowman’s 11 points.

Panther Valley-Pottsville

Panther Valley’s Maddison Maynard scored a game-high 26 points, but it wasn’t enough as Pottsville gained a 52-45 Schuylkill League victory.

The Panthers grabbed a 19-13 lead after the first quarter thanks to nine points from Sera Robin and eight from Maynard, but the Tide battled back to earn the win.

Liv Peleschak paced Pottsville, now 7-13 overall and 5-7 in the league, with 15 points.

Robin finished with 11 for PV (10-9; 4-8).

Taylor Conti set a school record with nine threes to help Minersville roll to a 73-30 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Conti finished with 29 points for the Battlin’ Miners (16-3, 10-1), who also set a record with 16 triples in the game. Brooke Kopinetz - who drained five treys - added 21 points.

Bethany Houser scored 10 points for the Wreckers (4-14; 1-10), while Kelly Reiner added nine.

Tamaqua posted a 32-28 victory over Lehighton.

Lauren Ligenza netted a game-high 18 points for the Blue Raiders. Wise scored 10 points for the Indians.
