Traffic stop leads to drug charges

A traffic stop by Tamaqua police on Jan. 18 led to drug-related charges against a Sheppton woman.

According to police, officers were monitoring traffic on North Railroad Street at 12:30 p.m. when a vehicle with an expired registration passed.

Police stopped the driver, Stephanie Lindquist, 35, who said she was on her way to get the vehicle serviced. Police said there was no inspection sticker on the vehicle, its brake lights weren’t working, and Lindquist had an expired license.

Without a valid license, officers advised Lindquist that the vehicle would have to be towed. She gave consent to officers to search the vehicle, and police found 19 syringes, wax baggies, glass pipes and a copper Brillo pad in two handbags. Police said the items are commonly used to ingest narcotics.

She was taken into custody and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license and driving an unregistered and uninspected vehicle.
