The Marian and Northwestern girls both extended long winning streaks to highlight Saturday’s basketball action.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Executive Ed.-Marian

Marian had no trouble with Executive Education Academy, rolling to a 55-20 non-league victory.

Carly Minchhoff scored 12 of her game-high 16 points in the first half as the Fillies raced to a 23-point halftime lead en route to their 13th win in a row.

Marian, now 16-1, also received 12 points from Ashley Pleban and 11 from Fatikha Tikhtova.

Tiana Carey paced the Raptors (12-6) with 10 points.

So. Lehigh-Northwestern

Northwestern extended its winning steak to 17 games with a lopsided 48-6 Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh.

Cara Thomas tallied a game-high 16 points for the Tigers, who had nine different players score.

The winners - who shut out the Spartans in two of the four quarters - also received 10 points from Maci Fisher.

Northwestern is now 18-1 overall and 14-1 in the league, while Solehi fell to 5-14 and 5-9.

Palmerton rolled to a 46-25 Colonial League victory over Bangor.

The Bombers (16-3 overall; 13-1 CL) put a two-game losing streak behind them while handing the Slaters (15-4; 12-3) their second straight league loss.

Sydney Frantz led Palmerton with 12 points, while Bethie Morgan and Megan Matsko both chipped in with nine.

Jim Thorpe rallied to pull out a 33-28 non-league victory over Mahanoy Area.

The Olympians - now 10-8 and one win away from officially clinching a district playoff berth, - outscored the Golden Bears 10-2 in the final frame to erase a deficit.

Gabby Cinicola and Mackenzie Yuhas both scored nine points to lead Thorpe, while Mahanoy received a game-high 13 points from Hanna Bro.

The loss dropped the Bears to 3-15.

Dieruff rallied for a 34-23 non-league win over Lehighton.

The Indians led 17-14 at halftime, but scored just six points the entire second half as they lost for the eighth time in their last nine games, and saw their record fall to 5-14 on the season.

Jayla Rosario led all scorers with 15 points for the Huskies (8-10).

Taylor Bowman led the Indians with seven points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Roberto Clem.-Panther Vy.

Stephen Hood poured in a game-high 23 points to help power Panther Valley to a 75-63 non-league victory over Roberto Clemente Charter School.

Hood tallied 18 of his points in the first two quarters as the Panthers took a nine-point halftime lead.

PV also received 14 points from Michael Pascoe, while Drew Kokinda and Chase Weaver both finished with 12.

The win pushed Panther Valley’s record to 10-8, leaving it one victory away from officially clinching a district playoff berth.

For the Pirates, now 2-13, Jandiel Flores had a team-high 17 points.

In a key Colonial League contest, Bangor edged Palmerton 56-52.

Ashton Kluska finished with a game-high 21 points for the Slaters, who made nine free throws in the fourth quarter to help earn the victory.

The Blue Bombers, who led by three points at the half, received a team-high 19 points from Matt Machalik. Brayden Hosier added 14 points, while Chase Reph chipped in with 11.

The loss dropped Palmerton to 15-3 overall, and 11-3 in the league. Bangor clinched a district playoff berth with the win, improving to 11-8. It is also 10-5 in the league.

A big third quarter helped Southern Lehigh pull away from Northwestern and cruise to a 65-36 Colonial League victory.

Max Pristas and Dawson Kauffman both scored seven points in the third frame as the Spartans used a 25-7 period to turn a slim lead into a wide margin.

Pristas finished with a game-high 17 points for Solehi, now 12-6 overall and 11-3 in the league.

The Tigers (8-10; 6-8) received a team-high nine points from both Cayden Fitch and Shane Marth.
