Kuczynski enjoying strong season at Jefferson

The Thomas Jefferson University women’s basketball team appeared in the top 10 of a national Division 2 poll for the first time this season on Tuesday.

The Rams (17-2) climbed three spots to ninth in this week’s D2SIDA Media Poll. They also remained first in the East Region for the second straight week. In addition, Jefferson improved four slots to 20th in the WBCA Coaches Poll.

It is the Rams’ first appearance in a national top 10 since March 2019. Jefferson has won five consecutive games, and is 9-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.

Tamaqua graduate Emma Kuczynski has shined for Thomas Jefferson this season.

Over the weekend, Kuczynski tied her career high with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting with six rebounds and one steal in a 72-32 victory over Alliance on Jan. 21.

The sophomore is averaging 9.1 points per game in 19 games started this season, which ranks fifth on the team, and 16 steals, which ranks fifth.

Kuczynski was the 2019-20 Times News/Lehigh Valley Health Network Player of the Year. She was an all-state selection at Tamaqua, where she ended her career with 2,010 points. She is third on the all-time Tamaqua girls basketball scoring list behind only her coach Erika (Barron) Davis (2,317 points), and Cindy Miller (2,155 points).
