Local entertainer Danny Farole dies at age 90

A local entertainer and Cancer Telethon icon has died.

Donato Carmen “Danny” Farole, 90, of Nesquehoning, peacefully entered into eternal rest Saturday, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus. He was the husband of the late Margaret Mary “Peggy” Farole who passed away Sept. 21.

Born in the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning, he was the son of the late Dominic “Tommy” and Angelina (Vaccaro) Farole.

He was a member of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley in Summit Hill, and he was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Nesquehoning where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.

A proud veteran who proudly served during the Korean Conflict, during his paratrooper basic training, he took first place out of 1152 men in a physical fitness competition.

For 42 years he helped raise money for the American Cancer Society by playing his accordion and guitar during their annual cancer telethon.

In 1986 he was named Man of the Year for the Panther Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are daughters Theresa Faenza and her husband Joseph of Coaldale, and Annette Koval and her husband Stephen of Nesquehoning; sons Donato “Danny” Jr. and his wife Nina of Mahoning Valley and Dominic and his wife Colleen of Hummelstown; grandchildren Joseph, Amanda, Christine, Donato, Josh, Anthony, Angelina, Maria, Dominic, Sophia, and Antonio; great grandchildren Connor, Jovie, Jack, Andrew, Alex, and Josephine; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister Antoinette Greek and a brother Anthony “Buddy” Farole.
