Free dinner

Zion United Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a free drive-through community dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. tonight. The meal will be spaghetti and sausage, salad, Italian bread and dessert.

Altar & Rosary

The Altar & Rosary group at Our Lady Queen of Peace church meets tonight at 6 p.m.

Vets Memorial

The Polk Township Veterans’ Memorial Commission will meet tonight at 6 p.m.

Eldred meeting

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors that was slated for tonight has been canceled.

New organist

Effort UMC is pleased to announce that Nate Sassoon, a musician and composer, will now serve as organist at the church’s 11 a.m. service.

Quilting group

The quilting group, Quilts Made With Love, with ladies from Western Pocono Women’s Club, will be meeting tomorrow at the home of Pat Mackes.

Their quilting session will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end around 3:30 p.m.

This month the lap quilts will have a Valentine’s theme and they will be donated to clients of Meals on Wheels.

Christian Unity set

This year’s annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be observed beginning today through Jan. 25. All Christians are invited to join the 10:30 prayer service tomorrow, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church to celebrate this year’s theme, “Do good; seek justice.” (Isaiah 1:17).

Stories will be shared by volunteers who work to distribute food and clothing of how their volunteer work has impacted their faith life according to Pastor Suzanne from St. Matthew’s UCC.

The prayer service will be followed with a light lunch in McCawley Hall at 11:30 p.m.

A meeting of area clergy and church leaders will follow the luncheon.

If in-person school is canceled that day for the Pleasant Valley School District, the event will be rescheduled for Jan. 26.

Mass for Life

Tomorrow, at 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Scranton, there will be a Mass for life with the Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, Bishop of Scranton, being the celebrant.

Soup sale ends

Effort UMC’s soup sale for ham & bean and cheeseburger soup ends today. Call 570-629-1890 for cost and to order. Pick-up date is Jan. 22.

Friday breakfast

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is inviting area contractors to a breakfast meeting to learn how they can become a significant partner in Habitat’s important work.

March for Life

On Friday, adults and teens from Our Lady Queen of Peace will travel to Washington, D.C. where they will join pilgrims from all over the country for the March for Life.

This is the 50th annual March for Life.

CWU meeting

Church Women United of Monroe County will hold a business meeting on Friday at 1 p.m., at Faith United Methodist Church, 1160 Clause Drive, Stroudsburg.

The group will be collecting items needed for Pregnancy Resource Center of the Poconos at the meeting including baby clothing, size newborn to 2T, (new or gently used), Dreft baby detergent, Sensitive baby wipes, diapers, and toddler formula.

Thrift store hours

Eldred Township’s Community Center Thrift Store is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Drop off of donations are Wednesday and Thursday during normal hours.

Survival Saturday

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a winter survival skills program for children ages 8 to 14 set for Saturday.

It includes a morning of outdoor exploration and putting winter survival skills to the test. Participants will learn about foraging local wild edibles in winter, learn basic fire building skills and construct shelters from materials found in nature.

There is a per person cost payable by cash or check. For more information or to register, call the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center at 570-629-3061, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
