Palmerton applies for grant to upgrade stormwater drainage

Palmerton has applied for a grant to improve stormwater drainage in the east end of town.

Borough council on a 4-0 vote Thursday approved an application to the Carbon County Conservation District for a Low Volume Pavement Grant.

Borough Manager Donna McGarry said the project is for improved stormwater drainage in 800 blocks of Alley H and Alley J.

She said that while there has not been any flooding, “improved stormwater drainage will alleviate water issues during rainfalls.”

McGarry said the borough is seeking about $50,000 for materials, equipment rental and paving restoration.

She said the borough’s match of in-kind costs would include its equipment, engineering and labor costs.

McGarry thanked borough engineer Eric Snyder of Keystone Consulting Engineers for finding the grant opportunity.

Councilmen Richard Nothstein and Cory Kepner were absent.
