Fentanyl, cash seized in Schuylkill; homeowner jailed on drug charges

A Schuylkill County man was jailed last week on drug charges after authorities served a search and seizure warrant at his residence.

On Jan. 11 members of the state police, district attorney’s office and the county drug task force conducted a joint investigation which resulted in the execution of a warrant at 332 W. Spruce St., Mahanoy City.

Officials seized quantities of fentanyl, oxycontin and other controlled substances. Cash was also seized.

The homeowner Francis L. Merva, 57, was taken into custody and charged with two counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned by on-call district judge Stephen J. Bayer, of Tamaqua, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $50,000 straight cash bail.
