A Carbon County driver was one of two killed in a two-vehicle crash early Monday afternoon in Monroe County.

State police at Stroudsburg identified the two victims as Donn C. Innes, 68, of Weatherly, driving a 2017 Audi A6, and Jeffrey A. Bates, 31, of Danville, Montour County, driving a 2018 BMW X2. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at 12:25 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township.

Troopers said both were traveling at a high rate of speed when Innes left his lane of travel for unknown reasons and his car made contact with Bates’ car. Both vehicles then went onto the right shoulder of the road and overturned several times.

While the vehicles were overturning, both drivers were ejected from their vehicles, troopers said.
