Palmerton Borough Council

Palmerton Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:

• Heard a complaint regarding residents who are not taking their trash cans back in after trash is collected. The borough’s ordinance requires that the trash cans be retrieved no later than 6 p.m. the day following collection.

• Approved a request for use of the borough hall by Getaway House Inc. to hold a meeting regarding a proposed campground in Palmerton. Council knows nothing about a campground proposal in the borough. The request for use of a room in borough hall is from an applicant from New York.

• Authorized the advertisement of an ordinance which repeals the borough’s existing alarm ordinance. Council discussed the fact that the crimes code already has penalties for repeated false alarms at last month’s meeting.

• Accepted the resignation of Gerald Robertson from the zoning hearing board. Letters of interest may be sent to the borough office by Jan. 20.

• Appointed Charles Kistler, Joshua Henry, and Ryan Burkett (Ryan will be a junior firefighter) to the Palmerton Fire Department. Councilman Kris Hoffner announced that the fire company membership has now reached 40 members, which is a tribute to the leadership of the fire department.

• Approved the advertisement of bids for sludge removal, with a bid opening set for Jan. 25.

• Approved the Palmerton Fire Company’s request to participate in a Community Day at Blue Mountain Ski Resort on Feb. 25.

• Agreed to hold a special meeting on Jan. 23.
