Carbon sheriff’s office warns about payment scam

The Carbon County Sheriff’s office will not call you to ask for payment to get out of a crime.

Over the weekend, several reports of a person calling, claiming to be a Sgt. Romero, or someone from the sheriff’s office, have been reported to the department. The department does not have any sergeant by that name.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office said that this is a scam.

The office does not make calls to solicit funds to get out of warrants. The scammer claims that the person has a warrant and needs to pay for the fine via credit card over the phone.

If you receive a phone call in this manner, you should call your local police department to make a report.
