Luzerne jewelry store robbed; thief sprayed fire extinguisher

State police at Hazleton said jewelry was stolen Wednesday at the Laurel Mall in Hazle Township, Luzerne County.

At 3:50 p.m. troopers were dispatched to D’Jesus Jewelry Store for a report of “gun shots being fired.”

Through an investigation it was determined that no shots were fired and there was no weapon. What was determined was that a man, 5-feet, 9-inches to 6-feet tall, wearing black pants, a gray jacket, red gloves and a black balaclava style face mask, entered the store, sprayed a fire extinguisher into the air, then smashed a glass display case with the extinguisher.

He took a neck mannequin containing a large amount of gold necklaces in it and fled the mall, exiting through the TJ Maxx store. No injuries were reported.
