Tigers, Panthers, Bombers get hoop wins

The Northwestern boys, Panther Valley girls and Palmerton girls all picked up basketball victories on Saturday.

In swimming, Tamaqua swept Salisbury.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Northwestern-Pen Argyl

Cayden Fitch scored 22 points to lead Northwestern to a 52-41 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Fitch scored 17 of his points in the second half for the Tigers (6-5; 4-3), who also received 19 points from Gavin Nelson.

Damian Tyminski led Pen Argyl (5-7; 3-6) with 10 points.

Wilson handed Palmerton its first loss of the season, upsetting the Bombers 57-52 in Colonial League play.

Shamel Gibson scored 17 of his 22 points during the second half for the Warriors (5-6; 4-5).

Brayden Hosier scored 24 points to lead the Blue Bombers (10-1; 6-1). Matt Machalik added 16.

The Blue Bombers (10-1; 7-0) placed three players in double figures, led by Hannah Barry’s 15 points. Bethie Morgan and Sydney Frantz chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Makayla Days had 15 points for the Warriors (4-8; 1-6).

Morgan Orsulak had a huge game to lead Panther Valley to a 54-49 non-league win over Shenandoah Valley.

Orsulak had a season-high 26 points, in addition to grabbing 11 rebounds. Sera Robin also had a season-high performance as she drilled six three-pointers en route to 20 points for the Panthers (6-5).

Ava Menjivar led the Blue Devils (6-7) with 15 points.

Mats on the Mecca

Northern Lehigh traveled to Pottsville to take part in the Mats on the Mecca.

Cody Mazzocca (121) and Sam Frame (285) led the way for the Bulldogs, as both finished with a 4-1 records in the dual meet tournament. Mazzocca compiled four pins among his victories, while Frame recorded three pins.

Northern Lehigh finished 0-5 on the day.

Northwestern at

Parkland Winter Duals

Northwestern had several standout individual performances at the Parkland Winter Duals.

Luke Fugazzotto (160) and Dalton Clymer (172) both had 3-0 marks and recorded pins in all three of their victories.

Lucas Miller (189) and Dartanyon DeLillo (215) both had 2-1 marks for the Tigers.

Palmerton at

Line Mountain Duals

Palmerton’s Dillon Lombardi recorded a perfect 5-0 mark at the Line Mountain Duals. Lombardi picked up three wins during his unbeaten run.

The Bombers finished with a 1-4 team record.

Bryce Smith (145, 152) and Derek King (138) both finished 4-1 individually for the Bombers, while Josh Merkel went 3-2.

Hamburg Area Duals

Tamaqua had a 3-2 team record at the Hamburg Area Duals.

The Blue Raiders scored wins over Halifax (61-6), Hamburg Area (48-24) and Littlestown (41-22), while dropping matches to Conestoga Valley (59-12) and Southern Columbia (39-26).

The Blue Raiders’ Aiden Schlier (107) and Gabe Erbe (121) both had 5-0 records individually. Schlier scored a pin, a decision, a tech fall and two forfeits, while Erbe recorded three pins, a major decision and a forfeit. Jacob Schlier posted a 4-1 mark at 152 pounds, recording two pins, a decision and a forfeit.

SWIMMING

Salisbury-Tamaqua

Tamaqua swept Salisbury in a non-league meet.

Stephen Behun and Brandon Long paced the Blue Raider boys to a 100-50 victory with a trio of first-place finishes. Behun touched the wall first in the 50 and 100 freestyle events, while swimming a leg in the winning 200 medley relay. Long had an individual first in the 100 backstroke, while also earning firsts as part of the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams. Alex Zehner (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle) added a pair of first-place finishes.

Mia Jones (50 freestyle, diving) had a pair of firsts to lead Tamaqua to a 102-74 victory in the girls meet,
