Tamaqua Library

The Tamaqua Public Library will explore J.K. Rowling’s “The Christmas Pig” from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9. Read the book at home, then come to the library to talk about it, enjoy some crafts, and have a snack on us.

The program is sponsored by the Youth Book Club, open to all students in grades 5 through 8.

Chase away the winter blues with yoga at the Tamaqua Public Library. A free Teen Yoga session will be offered from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at the library, 30 S. Railroad St., Tamaqua. Jennifer Betz will lead the program. Please bring a yoga mat or beach towel.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

Women’s Bible study will be held on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall.

Andreas VFW

The Andreas VFW Post 5069 will meet on Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. at the West Penn Annex, weather permitting.

Garden Club

Lewistown Valley Garden Club held it’s final meeting for 2022 on Dec. 13, including the annual Christmas party. Winners in the arrangement category for “Snow White,” a 12” to 18” wreath using white. first place, Sharon Herring; second, Evelyn Adams. Specimen, “Winter greens,” first place, Mary Bridygham, second, Louise Flexer. In lieu of a gift exchange a donation was given to the two families of the New Tripoli firefighters who passed away.

Perfect attendance awards were given to Evelyn Adams, Ann Fedor, Barb Malewski, Kathy McGee and Cindy Sabol.

New officers for year 2023 were selected: President, Cindy Sabol; Vice President, Sharon Herring; Secretary, Evelyn Adams; Chaplin, Linda Leiby; Historian, Mary Bridygham; Assistant Secretary, Georgene Gallagher.

A planning meeting will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the church hall. Members are reminded to bring a lunch and ideas. As always new members are welcome.

Calvary Lewistown

Guest speaker Rev. Keith McCarthy of Minersville will offer the message at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Evening service at 6:30 p.m.

Upcoming activities include: Wednesday prayer and share on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.; Jan. 22, Christmas Memories program at the 10:25 a.m. service.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Dec. 29 with 23 members in attendance. President Mary Bittle opened the meeting with the reading “Look For Me.”

The group meets every Thursday at the Coaldale Complex at 1 p.m. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.
