Rush Township supervisors plan to replace aging trucks

Rush Township road department employees will soon be behind the wheels of two new trucks.

On Tuesday, township supervisors authorized the vehicles’ purchase from New Holland/Lancaster Truck Bodies.

The price will be approximately $251,800, board Chairman Shawn Gilbert said.

The new vehicles will replace aging trucks.

“One will replace a 2008 and the other will replace a 2011,” Gilbert said. “They’re just worn out.”

“The body just fell apart on the one, and they were trying to weld it,” board Vice Chairman Robert Leibensperger added.

Gilbert attributed the decay to the salt the trucks spread during winter storms.

“There is nothing left of them,” he said. “So it’s nickel and diming us and it’s time to get new trucks.”

The meeting followed the board’s reorganization meeting.

The next regular monthly meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16.
