Fayash stays in chairman’s seat in Schuylkill Township
Supervisor Charles Fayash was reappointed chairman of the Schuylkill Township Board of Supervisors at their annual reorganizational meeting Tuesday night.
Supervisor Gary Feathers was reappointed vice chairman, and Denise Hill was reappointed township secretary/treasurer at a pay rate of $18 per hour for a total of 30 hours per week, and a 2% bonus on garbage collections.
Supervisors reappointed the Slusser law firm as township solicitor at $115 per hour, and the Karpowich law firm as zoning board solicitor at $125 per hour.
The three township auditors - Suzanna Apanavage, William Zahora and Christine Verdier - will be paid at the same $10 per hour rate as in 2022.
The township roadmaster, Mark Buccieri, will be paid $24 per hour plus $444.12 in dental insurance per year.
Fayash was appointed as the board’s liaison to the township police department.
Police Chief Anthony DiMarco and Sgt, Anthony Stanell were reappointed part-time officers at a rate of $20.50 per hour, working a combined 40 hours per week.
Douglas Litwhiler and Jason Lex were appointed as additional part-time police officers to help cover the 40 combined total hours for additional coverage for Middleport Borough at a rate of $19 per hour.
DiMarco and Litwhiler were also appointed as township code enforcement officer at $21.50 per hour for 22 hours per month including court time.
Thomas Slane Sr. was appointed as Emergency Management Coordinator, and Feathers was appointed deputy EM coordinator.
Alfred Benesch and Co. was appointed township engineer, and William Brior was appointed township sewage enforcement officer.
Berkheimer Associates was appointed collector for all enabling taxes and all delinquent taxes for 2023.
Jones and Co. was appointed to audit the township books for 2022, and Mauch Chunk Trust Co., Mid Penn Bank and CACL Federal Credit Union were appointed as depositories for township funds.
The supervisors voted to keep the penalty on delinquent garbage at $20, and appointed Supervisor Charles Hosler to a five-year term on the sewer authority board.
A motion was made to give township employees the following nine paid holidays: New Year’s Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and a floating holiday.
Other appointees:
• Mike Boyle to a three-year term on the township zoning hearing board.
• Matty Rudy to a three-year term on the township planning commission.
• Feathers as the voting delegate to the Eastern Schuylkill Planning organization.
• Buccieri as Schuylkill Council of Governments voting delegate, and Feathers as the alternate.
