SH church provides warmth for Christmas

Members of the Summit Hill United Methodist Church decided to give locally to their community one week before Christmas.

“Every year, the church chooses a mission project for the holiday season, whether it’s locally, nationwide or even overseas,” Joy Keip, church member and president of the United Methodist Women, said. “This year, we wanted to stick to our home of Summit Hill and have a hats, gloves and scarves drive for those in need.”

For the month of December, hats, gloves, scarves, coats and boots were collected. Then, after their church service on Dec. 18, members hung the items on the church fence. More than 30 sets of hats, gloves and scarves were available.

“The holiday season always brings additional costs to families, so we wanted this opportunity to alleviate some of those expenses for those truly in need,” Keip said. “All we asked was to take what you need and do not open the bags.”

A few hours after the posting, a majority of the bags were taken, but there are still a few remaining.

“It’s truly the honor system at it’s finest,” Keip said.

The Summit Hill United Methodist Church is located at 101 E. White St., and holds its weekly worship services every Sunday at 9 a.m.
