Schuylkill County Commissioners

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday agreed to renew an 18-month lease with Tamaqua Borough for the district judge’s office at 320 E. Broad St.

The lease begins on Jan. 1, and can renewed on a monthly basis.

The borough is remodeling another building to which the office may relocate. The county will negotiate a new lease when the office moves.

The current rent for this month is $2,256.31, and is expected to increase.

In other matters, commissioners:

• Will meet at 10 a.m. Jan. 3 to reorganize.

• Approved moving $25,000 between line items in the 911 Communications budget to help pay overtime for staff who are working to make up for four vacant positions.

• Approved the renewal of the excess Workers’ Compensation insurance policy for a one year term from Jan. 1, with Midwest Employers Casualty Co. for $114,185.

• Approved a $10,000 contract with Arro Consulting Inc. for a Community Development Block Grant Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility park project at West Penn Township.

• Approved a lease agreement with the Pottsville Parking Authority for 20 spaces at the Capitol Parking Garage for Adult Probation employees at $39.90 per space per month, for a total of $798.

The yearly total is $9,576 for the one year period beginning Jan.1.

• Reappointed John Malinchok and David Sattizahn to the county Planning Commission for four-year terms, and Mary Jo Moss to the Zoning Hearing Board for a five-year term.

• Approved a contract with Lehigh Engineering, Pottsville, for zoning services for 2023.

• Approved Ed Wenger of Lehigh Engineering as county zoning officer and Ralph Hummel as assistant zoning officer for 2023.

• Reappointed county Planning Commission Director Susan Smith as an assistant county zoning officer.

• Approved an agreement with Eagleview for the acquisition of a spring 2023 aerial flight, including orthophotography and oblique imagery along with associated Eagleview products.
