Troopers release crash details involving police car

State police at Lehighton have released its findings from a two-vehicle crash that involved a Nesquehoning police vehicle on Dec. 12.

According to troopers, a 2015 Ford Taurus police patrol vehicle, driven by officer Richard Bekesy, 60, was traveling west on West High Street when it came to the intersection of Ratcliff Street. The cruiser was traveling the wrong direction on the one-way road.

At the intersection, a Dodge Ram 1500, driven by Stefone Leisure, 37, of Nesquehoning, was driving north on Ratcliff and hit the police car on the driver’s side door.

A passenger in the pickup was taken to the hospital for a possible injury.

Neither driver was injured.

Troopers report that the primary violation for Bekesy was one-way roadways and rotary traffic islands.
